Abstract
The essay introduces the concepts of educational and digital poverty in pre-school children. According to the literature, these terms can be understood as deprivations of opportunities to learn, but also to experience, develop and freely flourish skills, talents and aspirations through the responsible, critical and creative use of digital tools” (Save the children, 2021, p.15). How does media consumption during the age of socialization impact on situations of socio-cultural deprivation?
This is the main research question underlying the essay. Starting from the results of a sociological, exploratory type of research promoted by Ministry of education (MIM), Ministry of University (MUR) and the Conference of Italian University Rectors (CRUI), in Italy , the essay focuses attention on three key aspects: 3. the reconnaissance of international studies and research on the relationship between children under 6 and the media, with reference to the implications of the latter on children’s learning processes, 2. the role of social, economic, cultural, and digital capital of socialization agencies in significantly directing the impact of technologies in children’s identity-building processes, 3 the proposal to recommendation to intervene for reduction of inequalities in socialization process.
